Title
Avro studless corset, 1937
Description
Avro studless wraparound corset of 1937. It features the new patent studless fastener designed to replace the conventional busk.

E. W. Canham developed the slide closure and Symington negotiated its exclusive use on their garments on a royalty basis. It gave a more streamlined front to the corset and meant that dresses did not cling to the bumps of a traditional busk closure.

Manufacturing of the studless fastener was suspended during World War II and resumed in 1949. By 1968 high production costs, and a change in underwear fashion, stopped production altogether.
