Reverend Dr William Pearson (1767-1847) was a co-founder of the Royal Astronomical Society. In 1821 he moved from London to South Kilworth, becoming the rector of St Nicholas Church. He built an observatory in the village, and this sundial was situated on the south wall. In the 20th century the observatory became derelict and the sundial was taken in by Leicester County Council. It now stands in Market Harborough Museum.
