Title
L2237 - Permanent way at Ashendon Junction, Buckinghamshire
Description
L2237 - This photograph was taken on a rather foggy day at Ashendon Junction, the point at which the existing Great Western line met with the Great Central's spur that had left the Last Main Line at Grendon Underwood. From here, the route into London became the Great Western & Great Central Joint Line. Although the Joint Railway did require the substantial rebuilding and widening of the old Great Western line, for the majority of its journey it consisted of two tracks, rather than the four seen here. Note the bridge parapets visible on either side of the line.
