Title
L3431 - Construction of a permanent way under brick and girder bridge
Description
L3431 - A long brick and girder overbridge spans a four track section, with two contractors' lines in place. Sleepers with chairs attached have been lined up ready for use - a chair was a metal casting designed to retain bullhead rail on wooden sleepers. Men beyond the bridge work at levelling the base of the cutting, and laying tracks. Note also short sections of drainage pipes on the right cutting wall. This photograph is thought to have been taken near South Harrow, which was passed through by the Great Central Railway's Neasden to Northolt line.
