Ruddington Station was part of the Great Central Main Line railway, just south of Nottingham. The station opened on 15th March 1889, closed to passengers 4th March 1963, and finally closed altogether on 3 May 1969 (though goods trains continued to pass through until the 1980s). The photograph is looking south, with the tracks heading towards Leicester.
