Sir Jonathan North (1855-1939) was Mayor of Leicester from 1914-1917. He is standing to the right of this photograph, addressing the crowd. A group of costumed performers is behind him. The Leicester Daily Post newspaper advertised the event as: "YE OLDE ENGLISHE FAIRE. In aid of the Mayor's Fund to help Disabled Sailors and Soldiers from the Town and County of Leicester. TO BE HELD IN THE MARKET PLACE, LEICESTER, THURSDAY & FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 28 & 29, 1916."
