Title
L1171 - Iron Girder bridge near High Wycombe
Description
L1171 - Iron girder bridge over a steep sided cutting on the almost completed railway near High Wycombe, captured by S. W. A. Newton sometime around 1904. The bridge would be of a fairly standard pattern found all over the Great Western & Great Central Joint Railway, and on the GCR's London Extension. This example appears to be built on a gradient as the left-hand abutment is distinctly lower that the right. A group of navvies appear to be tamping the track on the right-hand side, making it ready to receive trains. The left-hand line looks complete. Compare this view with Newton - B 2/3 and Newton B 2/8.
