Description
Man's Liberty Health Belt of 1930. It features the same lacing principle as a Jenyns corset, which was used by both men and women to help support the back and control the overweight figure.
Symington not only produced support garments for women. This man's Liberty Health Belt features the same lacing principle as a Jenyns corset, which was used by both men and women to help support the back and control the overweight figure. The Health Belt was marketed directly to men through the nationally known hunting tailor Frank Hall, who was also based in Market Harborough.
The belt is made from cotton drill, has strong knitted elastic side panels and features extra strong hooks and eyes for fastening. It is an extra deep version of the model, with an additional 10 cm (4 inches) added to the depth.
With the outbreak of World War Two in 1939, production at the Symington factory was scaled down. This particular line was removed from production and never re-introduced.
