L2442 - This is George Elliot, a Great Central passenger guard thought to have been photographed at Leicester Central around 1900. After the navvies work was done and the communities of labourers began to disperse, men and women living along the route of the Last Main Line must have greeted the Railway as a welcome source of employment.
