Title
L2812 - Steam cranes and a rock cutting on the Mountsorrel branch
Description
L2812 - This magnificent photograph was taken during construction of the Mountsorrel branch line, a short single track route that left the London Extension at Swithland before heading north east to the Mountsorrel quarries. As this picture of a roughly hewn rock cutting testifies, significant extraction of granite was required for the line itself. Two steam powered cranes are at work on the contractor's temporary railway that is running, somewhat precariously, along the edge of the cutting wall.
