Title
L2321 - Constructing the viaduct to cross the River Soar, Leicester
Description
L2321 - Taken around 1897, this photograph shows the construction of the girder bridge built to carry the viaduct over the River Soar. Situated just north of Leicester's Great Central Station, this elevated section of the Railway was built by Henry Lovatt & Co. as part of Contract No.2 (Leake to Aylestone). Note the temporary wooden frame that has been erected at either side of the central brick pier, and the crane jib visible above the girder.
