Title
L2318 - Viaduct construction at Aylestone, Leicester
Description
L2318 - These are the four brick arches of Aylestone viaduct (bridge No. 384), photographed as the structure nears completion, circa 1897. Note the uneven line of contractor's temporary rails running beside the bridge, and the wooden boards beneath the parapet that would be removed after the navvies had laid the capping stones. This section of the Last Main Line (Contract No.2, Leake to Aylestone) was built by Henry Lovatt & Co. of Wolverhampton.
