Title
L2239 - Girder bridge and permanent way near West Ruislip
Description
L2239 - This girder bridge was built to carry the Neasden to Northolt line over the Uxbridge branch of the Metropolitan Railway near West Ruislip, Middlesex. Built by T. Oliver & Son between 1901-1905, the Neasden line served as the connection between the Great Western & Great Central Joint Railway, and the Metropolitan & Great Central route that had carried the Last Main Line into London since its opening in 1899. Construction of the bridge has clearly disrupted the existing line: before carrying any traffic these undulating tracks would be packed and tamped until level, and ballast would be swept over the sleepers.
