Title
L2219 - Brick arch overbridge and excavation near Rugby
Description
L2219 - This three arch brick overbridge was built to carry the Ashlawn Road across the London Extension near Rugby. Interestingly, the bridge has been constructed, but the cutting beside it has yet to be fully excavated. Here, navvies look on as the combined forces of blasting and steam shovel work to destroy the rock face. A line of empty tipping wagons stand by to remove the debris. This section of the Railway (Contract No.4, Rugby to Woodford) was built by T. Oliver & Son between 1894-1899.
