Title
L1340 - Girder bridge over Station Street in Nottingham.
Description
L1340 - This typically Victorian street scene, complete with ladies in long skirts and hats, shows just how the London Extension traversed the city of Nottingham. The photograph shows the girder bridge under construction, and was taken on Station Street, adjacent to the Midland Railway's station that the Great Central line would cross on a continuation of this bridge. Note the cobbled street and the man pushing the cart along the road. Several women occupy the pavement on the left, while a 'Daily Mail' advertisement adorns the bridge abutment on the right. The bridge was part of Contract No. 1 (Annesley to East Leake) constructed by Logan & Hemingway between 1894 and 1899.
