Title
L1266 - Navvies building the piers for a girder bridge
Description
L1266 - Navvies constructing the piers for a girder bridge, circa 1890s (place and Railway unconfirmed). Bricklaying was one of many skills that navvies were employed for, besides using their muscle with picks and shovels. Note the elevated rails laid by the contractor, part of the temporary line built to bring men and materials to the work site.
