Title
L1087 - Contractors' 0-4-0 saddletank locomotive, CAERWENT.
Description
L1087 - An 0-4-0 contractors' saddletank locomotive, CAERWENT, pictured at Mowmacre Hill in Leicester, circa 1897. At the time, the locomotive and her two crew were at work on Contract No. 2 (East Leake to Aylestone) being built by Henry Lovatt of Wolverhampton. The three gentlemen standing in the cab with the driver could be foremen, the contractor or even simply observers from the region. CAERWENT was built by Manning Wardle & Co. of Leeds in 1881(No. 785), and was originally owned by the contractor, T. A. Walker.
