Carley St Baptist Chapel was a protestant nonconformist church, built around 1823-1824. It was demolished in the 1960s when the area was redeveloped.
The plaque on the right is in memory of John Sturman and Lydia Forth (daughter of the church pastor). They both acted as missionaries in China, but Lydia returned to England after contracting diphtheria. She passed away December 1894 and her funeral service was held in the chapel.
