Title
"Sportineze" corset by Stapley & Smith, 1923
Description
"Sportineze" corset by Stapley & Smith, 1923. This combined corselet and stocking suspender was described by the company as "an ideal garment for every kind of sport".

The corselet is made from cotton poplin and embroidered cotton drill below the bust. It has no busk and is fastened at the back with three pearl buttons. The shoulder straps are crossed over at the back and fasten at the front with a small button. Four adjustable suspenders are attached to the bottom of the garment.

An illustration of the corselet appears in a Stapley & Smith trade catalogue from 1923, alongside a similar garment which featured a busk front.
