Description
L1013 - Hunslet Engine Co. built 0-6-0 saddletank, WILLIE, No. 65 of 1871. The locomotive is pictured in Roxeth cutting near Harrow in Buckinghamshire on 21st May 1902 when working on the Neasden to Northolt contract (Great Western & Great Central Joint Railway) under T. Oliver & Son. The locomotive is running bunker first, and is hauling a rake of ten fully loaded tipping wagons. The driver stands on the footplate while the fireman and three boys stand on the ground. To the rear of the right of the picture can be seen one of the many steam shovels/excavators or 'steam navvy's' used on the construction of the railway.
