The Cathedral Church of St Mary and St Thomas in Northampton was mostly built during the 19th century. In 1948 Bishop Leo Parker extended the west end of the cathedral. Building work was completed in 1955.

The plaque roughly translates as:

"D. O. M [note: Deo Opt. Max, meaning "To God, most good, most great"]

The temple was established in honour of the BMV [Blessed Virgin Mary] and St Thomas of Cantebury. The stone was laid in the presence of the 7th Bishop of Northampton Bernard Cardinal Griffin on 15th June 1955 during the reign of Pope Pius XII."
