Title
L1368 - Clearance work for construction of the Railway
Description
L1368 - Clearance work being carried out on Bath Lane, Leicester, circa 1896. Established and densely populated cities such as Leicester and Nottingham provided Railway designers and engineers with considerable obstacles. Before construction of the London Extension could begin, large numbers of properties had to be purchased and demolished. The contractor responsible for building this section of the Railway (Contract No.2, Leake to Aylestone) was Henry Lovatt of Wolverhampton.
