Title
L3044 - Great Central bridges spanning Whetstone Brook, Leicestershire
Description
L3044 - A fine image of the completed brick arch bridge and footbridge that crossed Whetstone Brook just south of the village's Great Central station. The bridge itself (no. 399) was a large three-arch structure, with the brook passing under the central span, and footpaths running beneath the two side arches. In the foreground is one of the two handsome foot bridges which were built on either side of the Last Main Line embankment: these were numbered 399a and 399b respectively. The timber box rising above the bridge is thought to be a temporary water tower.
