Title
L1374 - Steam navvy at Chetwode, Buckinghamshire
Description
L1374 - 'Chetwode steam navvy' at work in Buckinghamshire (S.W.A. Newton's notes), circa 1897. Although the steam powered machines were an invaluable asset, large numbers of men and horses were still required for the Line's construction. This section of the Railway formed part of Contract No.6 (Brackley to Quainton Road), built by Walter Scott & Co. of Newcastle upon Tyne.
