Title
Ashby De La Zouch Castle Ruins
Description
Horses grazing in front of the ruins of Ashby De La Zouch Castle. Ashby Castle was built by William, Lord Hastings in 1473. During the Civil War in the 1640s Henry Hastings, a royalist, used the castle as a base of operations. The castle fell after a siege, and was partially destroyed by parliamentarians to prevent its reuse.
The castle famously featured in Sir Walter Scott's novel Ivanhoe.
