Title
L1381 - Navvies laying temporary rails
Description
L1381 - Navvies laying contractor's rails, possibly in the Hucknall area of Nottinghamshire, circa 1896. To get men, materials and steam powered equipment to the construction sites, miles of these temporary tracks would be rapidly laid. Speed was of far greater importance than quality, as these tracks were poorly maintained and would quickly be removed for use elsewhere.
