Title
L3059 - Girder bridge carrying the Midland Railway at Leicester
Description
L3059 - Bridge no. 379, a double girder span that was built to carry the Midland Railway's Leicester to Burton line over the London Extension just south of Leicester Goods Yard. If the abutments seem unnecessarily large, it is because the Midland Railway allowed provision for the quadrupling of the line, an optimistic vision that never materialised. Note the large piles of ballast that have yet to be swept over the permanent way.
