Title
L1391 - Alexandra Road Tunnel, London.
Description
L1391 - View showing the construction of Alexandra Road Tunnel in London, just to the south of Loudoun Road Station. The tunnel portal brickwork is finished but the wooden centring is still in place. Outside the tunnel on the light contractor's tracks are several mineral wagons, possibly loaded with bricks for lining the tunnel. Note the split log sleepers on the contractor's railway and the navvy at work on the right. This section of line between Canfield Place and Marylebone was built by J. T. Firbank of London Bridge between 1894 and 1898.
