Title
L1394 - Garners Hill Passage, Nottingham
Description
L1394 - Plate girder bridge over Garners Hill Passage, close to Weekday Cross in Nottingham. Weekday Cross is where the Great Central plunged into tunnels beneath Nottingham, emerging at Nottingham Victoria Station, before tunnelling out northwards. The viaduct seen here continued southwards out of the city, crossing the Midland Railway Station en route. Both girder bridges in this view have now gone, although the brickwork remains. The building on the left (corner of Drury Hill and Middle Hill) has been replaced by the Broadmarsh Shopping Centre. The new Nottingham Rapid Transit tram system runs on a purpose built viaduct close to this site - replacing much of the old Great Central structure.
