Title
L1395 - weekday Cross Tunnel, Nottingham
Description
L1395 - The south portal of Weekday Cross Tunnel in the heart of Nottingham, just as it was nearing completion. Trains coming into Nottingham from the south would enter this tunnel and travel beneath the city - emerging at Nottingham Victoria Station. In the picture, scaffolding is still fixed to the retaining walls and only the contractor's (Logan & Hemingway) tracks are in place. The tunnel eventually had a higher parapet wall built which was adorned with an advertisement for the Royal Theatre. This can still be seen today, along with the tunnel portal which now carries heating pipes.
