Title
L1412 - Viaduct construction
Description
L1412 - Constructing the bridge over the River Soar, Leicester, circa 1897. This bridge formed part of the viaduct that carried the London Extension over much of the city. Steam powered cranes like the one in the photograph proved invaluable assets during bridge building and steel lifting. This section of the Line (Contract No. 2, Leake to Aylestone) was built by Henry Lovatt of Wolverhampton.
