Title
L1414 - Viaduct construction, Leicester
Description
L1414 - Construction of the girder bridge that carried the new Railway across the River Soar, Leicester, circa 1897. The photograph provides a wonderful insight into bridge construction at the end of the nineteenth century. Henry Lovatt of Wolverhampton was the contractor who built this section of the Line (Contract No. 2, Leake to Aylestone). Note the jib of the steam crane visible over the girder parapet.
