L2942 - A view from a line of contractor's railway towards the lattice work iron parapets of the bridge at the site of Whetstone Station, Leicestershire. The picture provides a good opportunity to witness the poor quality of the temporary tracks which were used by the builders to ferry men and materials to and from the construction areas. More often than not, these rails were hastily laid on muddy and uneven trackbeds, before being intensively used and then quickly lifted for use else where.
