Title
L2941 - Unfinished brick arch bridge near Whetstone
Description
L2941 - Built by Topham, Jones & Railton as part of Contract No.3 (Aylestone to Rugby), this is the large brick arch bridge that brought the London Extension across the Whetstone to Littlethorpe road in Leicestershire. The structure is almost complete: only work on the right wing wall and the parapet is still to be done. From the abrupt end to the embankment, it is clear that plenty more tipping is required before this steep earthwork is finished. Note the line of contractor's temporary railway that is running across the road parallel with the embankment.
