Title
L2969 - Woman and young child
Description
L2969 - Together with photographing the construction of the Last Main Line, S. W. A. Newton repeatedly captured subjects from the many village communities that existed close to the route. Indeed, it was by selling some of these pictures, such as this one of a woman and small child in Northamptonshire, that Newton helped to offset the costs of his expeditions. The wooden chair placed on a muddy slope with a wall of ivy behind certainly makes for a suitably rural choice of portrait setting.
