L2995 - One of the most charming and remarkable aspects of the huge collection of photographs taken by S. W. A. Newton is the fact that he did not focus exclusively on railway construction. As with this picture of three generations of a Charwelton family assembled by the door of their cottage, Newton's hobby also led him to record many interesting subjects from the rural communities that existed close to the route.
