Title
L1117 - Three arch brick overbridge near Helmdon, Northamptonshire.
Description
L1117 - A three arch brick built overbridge, spanning a shallow but wide cutting near Helmdon, Northamptonshire. The photograph, taken on 31st July 1897, shows the bridge virtually completed with a navvy gang trimming the cutting wall. This road bridge was built as part of Contract No. 5 (built by Walter Scott & Co. of Newcastle upon Tyne) and, according to S. W. A. Newton's notes, it is the 'Radstone Gradient to Syresham Road Bridge, 73M 75C'. Included in the picture is a large gang of navvies working on the rail bed foundations.
