L2862 - In addition to the faithful record that he made of railway construction, S. W. A. Newton regularly captured the scenes and subjects of rural life that he witnessed along the route. This young family were photographed at Birstall, Leicester. Indeed, it was by selling copies of such photographs that Newton helped to finance his repeated, and no doubt costly, expeditions.
