Title
L1172 - Iron Girder bridge near High Wycombe
Description
L1172 - Iron girder bridge over a steep sided cutting on the newly completed railway near High Wycombe, captured by S. W. A. Newton sometime around 1904. The bridge would be of a fairly standard pattern found all over the Great Western & Great Central Joint Railway, and on the GCR's London Extension. This example appears to be built on a gradient as the right-hand abutment is distinctly lower that the left. The permanent way is in the process of being laid - the hard core base is down on the track bed awaiting the sleepers, rails and ballast. This is the reverse view to that shown in Newton - B 2/7.
