Title
L2875 - Pit headgear at Catesby tunnel
Description
L2875 - Perhaps an unlikely snapshot of railway construction, this photograph was taken of the headgear and temporary wooden structures that lay at the surface of tunnel shaft no. 3, one of many holes which were bored out for the building of Catesby tunnel. In small tubs such as the one by the shaft entrance, bricks and materials would be lowered to the men working below, and likewise would be returned to the surface full of spoil and other debris.
