Description
L2870 - Thought to have been taken near Chetwode around 1897, this is railway construction in earnest. Two lines of contractor's temporary railway run along the floor of a roughly hewn cutting between the two square abutments that would later support a single span overbridge. On the far right is the temporary wooden bridge that has been built to span the cutting whilst the permanent structure is completed. At the bottom left of the picture is a mechanical crusher.
