Title
L1196 - Steam crane in wood yard, London
Description
L1196 - Contractor's steam powered crane at work at a wood yard in London, circa 1897. The 'home made' wooden cab designed to increase the comfort of the crew is a fascinating example of this typical modification. Unsurprisingly, the contractor's wood pile transformed into a makeshift track bed for the machine does not look terribly secure. J. T. Firbank of London Bridge was the contractor responsible for building this section of the Railway.
