Title
L2891 - Girder bridge carrying the Midland Railway across the London Extension
Description
L2891 - Built to carry the Midland Railway's Leicester to Burton line across the Great Central's London Extension, this is bridge no. 379: a double girder span supported on substantial brick abutments and a central pier. As the South Leicester Goods Yard was but a short distance north of this point, the bridge's left-hand span went over the GCR main line while the right spanned the Goods Loop. With regard to the Midland Railway, the bridge originally carried a double track line, but this was later singled and the route became a freight only branch, which, incidentally, is still in use today.
