Title
L2895 - Navvy and lifting gear at Brackley viaduct
Description
L2895 - This navvy was photographed at work on the Great Central viaduct at Brackley, around 1897. The lifting gear that is bringing materials up to the top of the arches looks decidedly primitive, the frame being lashed together with ropes and braced with two lightweight planks. From the scene beyond, it is easy to recognise the viaduct's impressive and imposing stature.
