Title
L1209 - Blacksmiths shop in Mowmacre Hill, Leicester
Description
L1209 - Interior view of the contractor's blacksmiths shop on Mowmacre Hill in Leicester, taken during the construction of Contract No. 2 (East Leake to Aylestone) built by Henry Lovatt of Wolverhampton. The two blacksmiths pose by the hearth - one leans his hammer on the large anvil on the left. A wide array of tongues can be seen racked in the foreground. There would always be plenty of work for such blacksmiths, and the tiring atmosphere has been well captured in this image.
