Title
L1003 - Contractors' 0-6-0 saddletank locomotive, COREA.
Description
L1003 - Manning Wardle & Co. 'K' class 0-6-0 saddletank, COREA, (No. 971) of 1885. The locomotive is seen on 7th June 1897 with its crew in a cutting near Calvert in Buckinghamshire, when working on Contract No. 6 - the Brackley to Quainton Road section built by Walter Scott & Company. Of interest are the locomotive's wooden dumb buffers and the flags that it carries on the smokebox and cab.
