Title
L3297 - Navvies laying the Permanent Way in Buckinghamshire
Description
L3297 - This view, possibly taken near Ashendon on the Great Western & Great Central Joint line, shows a gang of navvies laying the permanent way on this section. The navvy nearest the camera appears to be holding a pry bar, which was used to push rails into position. The gang visible in the distance are wielding keying hammers, which were used to hammer in the wooden keys that held the rails securely in the cast iron chairs.
