Title
L1041 - Contractors' 0-4-0 saddletank, LULI.
Description
L1041 - Manning Wardle & Co. 'D' class 0-4-0 saddletank, LULI, No. 892 of 1884 which, according to S. W. A. Newton's notes, was seen near the London & North Western Railway line near Brackley on 2nd August 1897. LULI was then employed on Contract No. 5 (Woodford to Brackley) being built by Walter Scott & Co. The diminutive locomotive is pictured in a shallow cutting on rough contractor's rails, with its three crew standing on the footplate and two navvies standing at the side. Note the iron shod dumb buffers and the older style, lift up smokebox door.
