Title
L1048 - Contractors' 0-4-0 saddletank locomotive near Catesby.
Description
L1048 - Hunslet Engine Co. built 0-4-0 saddletank (name unknown), pictured near Catesby, Northamptonshire. This engine was working on Contract No. 4 (Rugby to Woodford) being constructed by T. Oliver & Son between 1894 and 1899. The photograph shows the crew members and a collection of railway navvies standing on the engine and alongside on the track. Note the dog standing on the front of the engine and the bricks to the left which had probably been made on site. Coupled to the front of the loco is a wooden-bodied tipping wagon.
