Title
L2804 - Cutting and contractor's railway near Mountsorrel, Leicestershire
Description
L2804 - This view along a roughly hewn cutting is thought to have been taken near Mountsorrel around 1897. Typically, the two lines of contractor's temporary railway are poorly laid and caked with mud. Given these appalling conditions, it is perhaps surprising that the mechanical plant used for the railway's construction, such as the steam powered excavator that is just visible beyond, was not subject to more derailments.
